Editorial: Wabi-Sabi Chic
I was so thrilled to collaborate on this gorgeously neutral editorial shoot, inspired by the Japanese concept of Wabi-Sabi - the philosophy of finding beauty in imperfection and embracing life’s natural cycles. AND this shoot was recently featured on 100 Layer Cake - check out their blog post for more detailed goodness!

The stationery suite was inspired by natural textures, and I was excited to use handmade paper overlaid with vellum for a romantic effect. Classic typography was paired with illustrations of cherry blossoms to symbolize spirituality, beauty and impermanence. The envelopes were a toned speckled stock, and bright white textured linen cardstock gave the additional pieces a clean yet tactile look.
Didn’t Carrie of Boheme Tipi Events do a gorgeous job with all of the dried textured floral details? I love that this look goes beyond seasonality - it could work wonderfully for a summer or winter wedding!
The menu cards were embellished with blossoms embedded in pearlescent wax for an extra touch of natural elegance. I used broken pieces of neutral ceramic pottery for the place cards, embellished with a gold edge to mimic Kintsugi (the Japanese art of highlighting broken lines with gold when fixing ceramics).
All of the small details were so perfectly curated by Kellyne of Hand & Heart Event Design. I love the idea of gifting each guest a little bundle of Palo Santo at each place setting.
And finally, the bar menu was hand-lettered on clear acrylic with a painted gold background, to allow the natural textured of the palm leaf to show through.
