Oakland Billboard Art Project Proposal

The oak tree is a keystone species in our Oakland ecosystem - over 300 diverse species depend on this tree for food and shelter. This piece showcases oak tree ecology as a metaphor for the city of Oakland itself, which is one of the most diverse cities in the country. Just as the diversity of the oak woodland ecology gives it strength, so too does the diversity of the City of Oakland.

Species featured: Western Sheep Moth, Townsend’s Big Eared Bat, California Dog Face Caterpillar, Western Scrub Jay, California Sister Butterfly, Northern Pygmy Owl, Western Boxelder Bug, Long-Toed Salamander, Seven Spotted Lady Beetle, Gray Fox, Western Gray Squirrel, Striped Racer Snake
